昨年夏、甲子園を沸かせた帝京高校。智弁和歌山との壮絶な試合は記憶にまだ新しい。
帝京高校は秋季東京都大会の決勝で桜美林を６対２で下し、明治神宮大会に進んだ、
神宮大会では１回戦で強豪広島の広陵高校と対戦し２対３でサヨナラ負けを喫した。
帝京の注目は勿論、昨年夏も甲子園で快投を見せた豪腕大田投手である。
夏の甲子園も大阪桐蔭が順当に勝ち進んでいれば中田翔対大田の怪物対決が
見れたのだが大阪桐蔭が早実に負けたため、実現しなかった。
大田の特徴はまず１４０キロを軽々と越すストレート。これを追い込んだら高めに
バシバシ投げ込んで三振をとる。ボールの勢いとスピードは絶品で春の選抜出場校に出場する
投手の中ではピカイチだろう。
さらに、これを生かす為に時々スローカーブでカウントを取りに来る。
これは１１０キロ台後半のボールで、ストレートとおよそ２０キロの差があるため
バッターに取っては非常にやっかいなボールである。
さらには、縦に割れるスライダーも操り、ストレートとは違ってワンバウンドになるくらいの低めに集めてくる。
スタミナも抜群で回を増すごとにスピードが出始め、７回ごろには１４５キロを
超える球を投げ込んでくる。しかし、少し制球に問題があってフォアボールから
崩れるケースがまれにある。
もしも、大阪桐蔭・中田翔と対戦が実現すればかなり見ごたえのある対決になる。
両者ともパワーに自信があるのでおそらく、力と力の真っ向勝負になるのは
間違いない。
中田翔が大田の速くて適度に散るストレートにどう対応するのか。
昨年夏にハンカチ王子に突きつけられた課題
・・・１４０キロを超えるストレートをインコース・アウトコースに投げわけられた時にいかに対処するのか・・・
中田翔がこの答えを示すには格好の対戦相手である。
中田翔対大田この対戦も春の選抜の楽しみのひとつである。
