２年生とは思えない怪腕ぶりを披露し、一躍有名に。
佐藤の持ち味は１４５キロを超えるストレートと切れのいいスライダー。ストレートのコントロールは非常によく、インサイド・アウトサイドに投げ分けてくる。
その速いストレートが効いているせいもあって外に逃げるスライダーがさらに鋭く感じられる。
ストレートに重点を置いているバッターであればスライダーは全く手が出ないか、かなり外のボール球でも振ってしまうほどの切れがある。
さらに、佐藤は顔に似合わずインコースの厳しいところをバンバン攻めてくる。これもスライダーを活かす重要な武器になっている。
中田翔もこのピッチャーを攻略するにはストレートかスライダーのどちらかは捨てていった方がいい。もしくは、インコースに来るボールは完全に捨てて行くかの選択をしないと簡単には打たないだろう。
１４５キロを超えてコントロールがいいとくれば、中田翔が去年やられたハンカチ王子を連想させるが、ハンカチ王子に比べると球威が少し落ちる感じはする。ここで一発を打てるようであれば中田翔も斉藤にやられてから一皮剥けたといえるのでは？
