2009年5月23日に札幌ドームで行われた、日本ハム－ヤクルト戦に7番DHで先発出場し一軍デビューを果たした。その試合の第一打席で、レフト前ヒットを放ち、プロ初打席で初ヒットを飾った。
2回裏、1アウトでフォアボールで出塁した糸井を一塁において、中田の初打席が回ってきた。相手投手はヤクルトのサウスポーのバレット。インコースにクロスファイヤー気味に食い込んでくるストレートと外へ沈むチェンジアップが武器の投手。急速はそんなにないが、チェンジアップとの緩急でストレートを早く見せる技巧派タイプの投手だと思う。
初球は外のチェンジアップでストライク、中田のタイミングは合っていなく、恐らくこの段階ではストレート狙いだったと思う。
2球目はインコース高めというか殆ど頭付近に飛んできたストレート。中田は反応良くよけて、ちょっとムッとした表情を見せる。まあ、確実に外のチェンジアップで勝負するための布石の一球だと思う。この時点でカウントは1－1。
3球目はマニュアル通りの外のチェンジアップ。中田は、ブラッシュボールにもひるむ事なくしっかりとしっかりと踏み込んでボールを捕らえた。打球はあっという間に三遊間を破りレフト前に。中田の根性が光ったプロ初ヒット。それも、初打席で決める所がやっぱりスター。さすがですね。この後、味方の犠牲フライでホームに帰り、プロ初得点も記録した。
プロ野球においては、やはり一軍と二軍では大きな違いがあります。二軍では、ホームランを量産している中田もプロ野球選手の記録としては、それまでは何も残っていなかった。なぜなら、二軍での成績というのは、プロ野球選手の成績としてはカウントされず、たとえ、二軍でホームランを100本打ったとしても、プロ野球選手としての記録ではホームラン0になる。なので、一軍でヒットを打ったこの日は、中田にとって初めてプロ野球選手として仕事をしたと言えるだろう。まあ。こんなのは中田にとってはただの通過点。一軍で通用するような技術を身につけ、シーズンを通して一軍に居られるよう願っています。頑張れ中田！！
