昨日の２月２８日、浦添球場で行われたヤクルト－日ハム戦を観戦してきました。天気が良くて、いや、良すぎるといっていい程の暑さで、気温はおよそ２５℃。
津波警報にも負けずに、試合前練習から試合終了までをみっちり見学してきました。
そのせいで、私のお肌は真っ赤っか。昨日のお風呂は、悲惨なくらいのヒリヒリでした。
とくかく、球場に着いたのは、午前１１時前。
試合が始まる2時間程前で、日本ハムの選手がバッティング練習を行っていました。
私は、この試合が沖縄での最終戦と言う事もあり、奮発してバックネット裏のチケットを購入。
自分の席に向かっていると、早速、ティー打撃をしている中田がいたので、じっくりと見学しました。
もうこの段階ですでに、一月前の中田とは全然違うと思いました。
中でもはっきりと違がったのが、ボールの捉え方。
前回見た時は、バットが上から下に入り過ぎて、明らかにボールを擦っている印象。
擦り過ぎて、チップ気味にティーネットを越える打球もありました。
どうしても、点でしかボールを捉えられていなかったので、
タイミングが少しずれると、ティーですらミスショットになってしまっていたんでしょう。
しかし、今回はバットでボールを捕まえている印象。
もしくは、バットにボールが乗っている感じ。
点だったボールとの接点が、ラインになっているのがすぐに分かりました。
表現が難しいのですが、ボールがバットに乗っている時間が前回よりも明らかに長いと言う事です。

試合開始
そうこうしている内に、試合開始。
ヤクルトの先発は韓国のイ ヘチョン、ファイターズの先発は、武田勝。
両左腕の投げ合いで試合はスタート。
このヤクルトのイ ヘチョンは、球は速いんですが、かなりの制球難。
初回からストレートであろうと変化球であろうと、抜けたボールが本当に多く、
見ているこっちが冷や冷やするほど、右へ左へ荒れまくっていました。
まあ、それがこの投手の良い所なのかもしれませんが、シーズン前には
あまり対戦したくない投手ですね。
中田の初打席もこのイ ヘチョン。
かなり荒れている速いストレートを何球か見せられ後、スライダーに泳いでしまい、セカンドフライ。
荒れ気味のストレートに完全に意識がいっていました。
かなり高い打球だったので一瞬エラーするかなと期待したのですが、やっぱりプロは上手いですね。
第二打席も相手投手は、同じイ ヘチョン。
中田は相変わらず積極的で初球からガンガン振って行きます。
初球は速いストレートに押され一塁横へのファール。
次の二球目も同じく速いストレートだった思いますが、ここは難なくレフト前へ。
あまりにも無理なく打ったので、もしかすると変化球かもしれませんが、
何にせよ、かなり痛烈な当たりでした。ほぼ完璧に捉えてましたよ。
ここで中田の守備の話を少し
全体的にはそつなくこなしていた印象ですが、
「これはマイナスポイント」というミスを２つ程していました。
一つ目は、ショートとレフトの間に上がったフライをショートに任せてしまった事。
ショートがしっかりと取っていれば何の問題もなく処理されていたでしょうが、
落として結果ショートのエラーになってしまった為、中田にも責任が生まれました。
あれは、中田も間に合うかどうかの微妙な位置に飛んだボールなんですが、
可能であれば、後ろから来る外野が取ってやるのが定石。
まだ、外野守備に自信がないので、自分から「任せろ」と言う声が
出せないんでしょうね。
レフトよりの左中間に飛んだボールもセンター・糸井が大声で「OK OK OK」言って
取っていました。
もう少し、他人のボールも自分が取るくらいの意気込みで
守備が出来れば、すぐに大丈夫になると思います。
二つ目は、ランナー2・3塁の場面でレフト前に来たゴロをファンブルし、
ホームへ返球出来なかった事。
あれは、セカンドランナーが青木でしたので、普通に取れていても
絶対に間に合わなかったでしょうが、みんなが見ていてバックホームを期待する場面での
ファンブルですので、凄く目立ってしまいました。
バッティングに戻る
中田の第３打席は、同期の由規との対決。
前回の練習試合では、外のスライダーに手がでずに、見逃し三振を喫してしまいました。
さて、今回はどうだったんでしょう？
見逃す。
追い込まれる。
振りかけるが何とか耐える。
さて、勝負球！
また、見逃し三振・・・ｗｗ
最後のストレートは、なんとこの日最速の１５５キロ！
それが、コースいっぱいに決まったんですから、打ちようがないですよ。
まあ、中田の弁護をする訳じゃないですけど、この打席は本当に打てる球がありませんでした。
仕方なしです！
この由規という投手も、日頃はストライクが入るかどうか自信なさげに投げているのですが、
中田が相手になると急に伸び伸び投げ始め、良い投球をする。
元々、投手としての素質は凄いものを持っているだけに、
調子づけると、打ち崩すは非常に難しい。
結局由規は、中田を討ち取ったくらいから、グングン調子を上げてきて、
8回終了までダブルプレー崩れの一点だけに抑えちゃいました。
そして試合は最終回に。
ヤクルトは抑えの切り札、イムチャンヨンが登場。
中田との対戦もありました。
勝負はたったの２球。
初球空振りの後、２球目のスライダーがバットの超先っぽに。
打球はファーストの頭上を越え、ライト前へのポテンヒット！
何とかボールに喰らい付き、気持ちで運んだというような泥臭いヒット。
前日の岩隈に続き、イムチャンヨンという一線級の投手から、価値あるヒットを放ちました。
高校時代の中田ならこんなヒットは、到底納得出来るものじゃないでしょうが
今の中田にとっては本当に意味のある大きな一打。
どんな形にせよ、こういう一流投手から打つヒットというのは、
間違いなく自信になるはず。
見た目は一番醜かったが、この日一番いいスイングをしたと思います。
結局試合は、4-1でヤクルトの勝利。
勝ち負けはあまり重要ではないが、色々と見ごたえのあるいい試合でした。
最後に
この日一日、ずっと中田の一挙手一投足を見てきましたが、
率直に「かなり成長してる」と感じました。
技術的な事も勿論なんですが、プロ野球選手として当たり前にしなければ行けない事を
当たり前に出来るようになっている。そこに、中田の大きな成長を感じました。
例えば、イニング交代は守備位置まで全力疾走する、
自分の打順が近づいてくれば、ベンチの中で相手投手とのタイミングを測るなど
去年はお世辞にも完璧には出来ていなかった事が自然と出来るようになっている。
当然だ！と言われれば何も言い返せませんが、中田がやっとプロ野球選手として
本気になったんだなぁとしみじみ思いました。
ひいき目なしで、このまま行けば開幕一軍は間違いないです。
後、開幕をレフトで迎えるのか、ベンチで迎えるのかは今後の活躍次第です。
是非開幕一軍ではなく、開幕レギュラーを勝ちとって欲しいです。
沖縄でのキャンプはこれで終了。
明日からは札幌に戻ってまたオープン戦三昧。
あっという間に過ぎてしまった、この一ヶ月間でしたが
中田選手を始め、ファイターズのみなさん本当にお疲れ様でした。
